Patient Rights & Responsibilities

Your Rights

  • Confidentiality from all members of staff at all times
  • Telephone calls answered as promptly as possible
  • An appointment on the same day if you are assessed as requiring it
  • An explanation given if you have to wait more than 30 minutes after your appointment start time
  • Repeat prescriptions to be ready in two working days
  • Prompt investigation of any complaint made

Your Responsibilities

  • To treat practice staff with courtesy at all time
  • Not to request a home visit when you are capable of attending  the surgery
  • Not to call doctors out when the surgery is closed, for minor illness that could reasonably wait until the surgery re-opens
  • To cancel appointments as soon as possible if you cannot attend

Violent or abusive patients

  • No abuse of staff is acceptable, whether verbal or physical.  All incidents of abuse will be reported to the practice manager who will keep a log of all such incidents
  • By abuse, we include swearing, blaspheming, aggressive comments, aggressive gestures, physical contact or threat of physical contact
  • Anyone involved in an abusive incident will be asked to leave the practice premises.  We will write to the person concerned to warn them that this behaviour will not be tolerated.  If the behaviour is repeated, we will inform the patient that they have been removed from the practice list.
